Family and Reproductive Health

The Family and Reproductive Health Programme undertakes activities aimed at improving the well-being and reproductive health status of current and future generations of the people of eCSA. to achieve the mission, the programme seeks to empower decsion makers at different levels in policy formulation, implementation and monitoring. The programe's current areas of focus include the facilitation of evidence-based adolescent health policies and programmes, promotion of effective strategies to address children and women's health, promotion of male involvement in family and reproductive health care, supporting reproductive health networks and dissemination of best practices in reproductive health and service delivery.

Programme Objectives

  • Promote evidence-based Reproductive Health policies and programmes.
  • Document and disseminate best practices in family and reproductive health.
  • Enhance the health status of women, men and children.
  • Advocate for the development and implementation of relevant policies that address the special needs of adolescents.

Programme Accomplishments

The programme has been involved in the development of a guide for improving health policy development, promotion of inter-sectoral dialogue on resource moblization for HIV/AIDS, profiling models of good practice in the area of safe motherhood, research studies on family planning commodities and STD drugs in ECSA, facilitation of the development of national child survival strategy for inclusion of private practitioners in national child survival programmes, establishing partnerships and collaboration with regional and international partners for effective utilization of resources in addressing reproductive health issues.
